From ChildWiki.com
The B vitamin complex is a very extended name for more than ten different vitamins and essential acids, all different in properties and benefits. The complex is extended by many sources, and certain nutrients are also included as B vitamins, closing the gaps in the numbering of the complex. There are more vitamins B that usually known. Different sources and medical publication present and emphasis certain types of B vitamins, however, each of them is important for a healthy development.
The most important vitamins, for human development, in the B complex are 12, and are usually found in a balanced diet, as well as in commercialized supplements.
[edit] Vitamin B1 - Thiamine
It is also known as the vitamin of happiness, because it has beneficial effects onto the nervous system and the emotional state, or as the vitamin of intellectual performance, because it assure a better intellectual activity. Vitamin B1 has a very important role in the glucose metabolism and it is absolutely necessary for the well functioning of the muscular and nervous system. This vitamin also bring an important contribution to the smooth muscles health.
It acts as a co-enzyme, intervening in numerous important biochemical reactions in the glucose metabolism. It will diminish the pain felt (helps when treating Herpes Zoster). It is involved in the conduction of sensations from nerves to muscles.
The lack of vitamin B1 causes tiredness, lack of appetite and the loss of body weight and it can also lead to cardiac and digestive diseases, that are reversible by administrating a supplement of this vitamin.
In nature, vitamin B1 can be found in cereals, oranges, veal lungs and liver, baked potatoes, beans, flour. It also presents a slightly diuretic effect when consumed from natural sources.
[edit] Vitamin B2 - Riboflavin
Its main role is in reducing the cellular oxidation. It will protect the integrity of skin, hair and nails, it will aid in developing a healthy vision and in maintaining it (it is found in the photosensitive cells form the eyes). All the actions which supra-solicit the body, as well as the physical development of a child, require a supplementary intake of vitamin B2 (pregnancy, breastfeeding, growth). Furthermore, B2 has a determinate role in the iron metabolism, in the protein synthesis.
The lack of B2 leads to growth disorders and it favorites the apparition of dermatological diseases. An insufficient daily intake will determine a reduced synthesis of proteins. People who are stresses or exercising a lot require more vitamin B2 that other persons.
Dietary sources of vitamin B2 are found in vitamin-enriched bread, milk or other diary products, oak, veal liver, pork meat, eggs.
[edit] Vitamin B3 - PP or Niacin
Niacin is an essential vitamin for the tissue breathing. It is a base component of enzymes implicated in the metabolism of glucose, fats and proteins and also in biological oxidation. It is indispensable for a well functioning of the digestive and nervous systems, for maintaining the integrity of skin and mucus, as well as for the normal synthesis of certain hormones. It's used as a medication.
The lack of niacin determines the apparition of the dermatitis, dihareea and dementia, of the three D disease, as it is called. Vitamin B3 can also prevent various skin diseases, it acts a calming factor in headaches, improves the blood circulation, decreases hypertension and cholesterol. It ameliorated ulcer related pain and fights efficiently against bad breath.
[edit] Vitamin B4 - Adenine
This is not precisely a vitamin, is is a nucleobase, and it is naturally synthesized by the human body. It helps absorbing iron and participates in the metabolism of certain amino-acids, at the biosynthesis of nucleic acids. Along with other vitamins, it has a positive role in the biosynthesis of hemoglobin and it is very useful in treating anemia.
[edit] Vitamin B5 - Pantothenic Acid
In the human body, the panthotenic acid is included in the A co-enzyme, which plays a role in the glucose metabolism, of fats, proteins, and in generating the needed energy for physiological processes. It plays an important role in the well development of various enzymatic reactions.
A lack of vitamin B5 determines neurological disorders (paralysis of extremities, headaches, tiredness, sleep disorders) and digestive problems (nausea, vomiting, gases). It favorites the maintaining of the normal structure and function of the skin and it positively stimulates the growth and pigmentation of hair. It is indispensable for the well functioning of supra-renal glands.
[edit] Vitamin B6 - Pyridoxine
Pyridoxine is essential for the intermediary metabolism, especially when it comes to the central nervous system. It has a very distinct role in the well functioning of the nervous system and the immune system. Children that register a lack in this vitamin may experience convulsions, depression, anemia, irascibility.
Also, the lack of vitamin B6 can determine seborrheic dermatitis. Oral contraceptives can determine a decrease in the absorption of this vitamin.
B6 is necessary for magnesium assimilation and also it play a role in the internal process of producing the digestive acids. Amino-acids also depend on it. All vitamins in the B complex are better absorbed if a proper level of vitamin B6 is maintained. It slows down the evolution of osteoporosis, and in case of this diseases it is requires next to calcium and vitamin D.
In conclusion, vitamin B6 is needed to maintain the well functioning of the immune system. It is absolutely indispensable in forming antibodies and the red blood cells. Because it plays an important role in metabolizing amino-acids, the daily dosage should be directly linked to the amount of proteins eaten. A higher level of proteins linked with a sustained physical effort will considerably raise the need levels of vitamin B6.
The lack of B6 affects the structure and the normal behavior of muscular tissue. It is needed to fixate vitamin B12. It acts as a mild natural diuretic. Vitamin B6 can be found in the following natural sources: cereals, vegetables, fresh and dried fruits, spinach, apples, grapes, cabbage, fish, eggs, unsalted nuts, bananas, avocado.
The daily recommended dosage is of 50 to 100 milligrams/ kilogram of weight under surveillance. For children, the dosage can be of 0.6 - 1.6 grams, and for teens and adults between 2 - 2.2 grams. The dosage increases in case of pregnancy, breastfeeding mothers and women who use contraceptives. Vitamin B6 can be overdosed, and a dosage that is too high can affect the nervous system negatively.
[edit] Vitamin B7 - Biotin or Vitamin H
Biotin, also called Vitamin H or B7, is a component part of certain enzymes that interfere with the metabolism of proteins, fats and blood sugar. It ameliorates the muscular pains that come after efforts and it contributes in maintaining skin integrity. It stops hair from falling and turning gray, and it is used with good results in preventing baldness. People who experience a lot require larger quantities of this vitamin.
[edit] Vitamin B8 - Inositol
Vitamin B8 is synthesized by the human body (as a component of lecithin), but the quantities are not always sufficient.
Its concentration in the body determines and influences the descuamation of the skin, hair loss, a decrease in hemoglobin, lack of appetite, tiredness, emotional disorders. It is often recommended in skin problems and fatigue complains. At cellular levels, it acts a co-enzyme in various internal reactions.
Amongst with the other lecithin components, it favors he linking of free fatty acids, preventing liver problems and preventing cholesterol from sticking to the arterial walls. It contributes to the elimination of toxins and unused metabolic products that are accumulated in the body. The lack of this vitamin leads to a perturbation in the cerebral activity and a decrease in the memorization abilities.
[edit] Vitamin B9 - Folic acid
The folic acid plays an important role in the metabolism of proteins and nucleic acids. If it is lacking, it leads to anemia, nervous disorders, irritability and lack of memory.
It has an anti-allergic effect, a also stimulates and induces the call to action of leukocytes at the location of a lesions. It stimulates the immune system and contains anti-leukemia properties.
Vitamin B9 encourages hair growth and prevents articular problems. It is indispensable for cerebral activity. It also has a pronounced calming effect.
It is essential in preventing various birth defects and for a natural and healthy fetal development, this is why it is always recommended before and during pregnancy.
[edit] Vitamin B10 - Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA)
Usually secreted by the human body. It contributes in iron metabolism and in the forming of red blood cells. It triggers the synthesis of folic acid and the absorption of the pantothenic acid. The lack of vitamin B10 leads to premature while hairs and to the apparition of eczema.
[edit] Vitamin B12 - Cobalamin
It plays an important role in protein synthesis, in the glucose and fatty acids metabolism, as well as in forming red blood cells. It contributes to growth, to increasing appetite and body weight. For these reasons, it is needed and useful when trying to prevent and treat anemia. It is mainly found in liver and liver based products. Vitamin B12 also helps in maintaining a healthy nervous system, ameliorates irascibility and improves concentration, memorization abilities and a normal psychical balance.
[edit] Vitamin B15 - Panagamic Acid
This acid is extracted from rice and bran germs and also from apricot seeds and bear yeast. The panagamic acid activates the metabolic processes of oxidation at cellular levels, it acts as a detoxification agent and helps cellular breathing.
It is used in cardiovascular problems, in dermatological conditions, in alcoholism and in sportive medicine. It helps regain a normal blood pressure and ameliorates asthma.
Furthermore, positive effects have been noticed in case of liver problems. It is also used in drug withdrawal problems. for best results, this vitamin is used along with vitamin A and vitamin E. It can be administrated in a cure of 20-40 days, and after 2-3 months, the cure is repeated.
